Update and Pictures from Guatemala

Tuesday, August 7

Three great days in Guatemala; praise the Lord. We arrived in Guatemala City Sunday afternoon. After unloading our luggage and supplies at The House of Blessing, we headed to Antigua for lunch, shopping and sightseeing.
Monday morning we loaded our bus, Jennifer, and off to Santa Barbara we went (FYI – seems that all the buses here have female names on their front windows.)

What an exciting and exhausting day it was. We met Pastor Benedicto and some volunteers from his church including his two daughters. Our interpreters and Ernesto also joined us. Ernesto is a huge blessing for our group. His excitement for serving the Lord in working with children is unbelievable. He can get 200 children involved in singing & praising the Lord in a few minutes.

Monday, we visited 4 schools and led a park ministry in the evening. Tuesday, we visited 3 more schools. Schools in these cities are MUCH different than in the U.S. – no doors, no air conditioning, not many whiteboards, cinder block walls, concrete floors and no technology. In one classroom, bottlecaps with written numbers were used to teach counting. Some things are the same in any country – fun with friends, beautiful smiling faces, inquisitive minds, laughing at Ernesto’s comical singing motions and God’s love for each one of these children.

Praises : We were able to share Christ’s love with more than 1000 children. Providing bibles (we bought 3000 New Testaments for Pastor Benedicto give to students.) Having the opportunity to meet Pastor Benedicto and hear of the work of his 80-member church. This church has started 5 churches & 3 missions. Every Tuesday, Ernesto teaches a “value lesson” to 2000 children in the schools.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, we will visit three more schools and lead a park ministry in the evening.

Please pray for the 18 members of our church, pastor Benedicto, Ernesto, the translators/volunteers and the students/teachers we will encounter. Pray for our health and energy. Pray that God will be glorified in all that we do and say.

Guatemala 2012

Visited 3 schools today. Made salvation bookmarks with over 1000 students. Almost 1000 bibles were given to the older students. Went to the park this evening but only did recreation w kids due to rain. We moved into a covered area to play but were unable to do ladies and men’s studies but kids heard about Jesus 🙂 just got to new hotel and shower -hot today. It’s 10 and breakfast is at 6:45 then more schools tomorrow. Looks like hurricane won’t directly affect us and rain was forecast prior to Ernesto anyway, so we all came prepared.
